Crazy Eights

Match the top card by suit or rank, play an eight to change the suit, and be the first to empty your hand. Free to play in your browser. No download, no sign-up.

How to play

Crazy Eights is played by you against one, two or three computer players, chosen with the Players button. With two players each gets 7 cards, with three or four players each gets 5, and the next card is turned up to start the discard pile, an eight being put back into the stock. The player to the left of the dealer starts and play goes clockwise. On your turn you play one card that matches the suit or the rank of the top card of the discard pile.

An eight can be played on any card, and its player names the suit that the next player must follow. If you have no card you can play, you draw one card at a time from the stock until you can play, up to three cards, and then you pass. When the stock is empty the discard pile, apart from its top card, is shuffled to make a new stock. If nobody can play and nothing is left to draw, the round ends and the player with the lowest total in hand wins it.

The first player to play the last card of the hand wins the round and scores the cards left in the other hands, 50 for each eight, 10 for each king, queen or jack, 1 for each ace and the face value for the other cards. In the default game rounds are played until a player reaches 100 points, and the Single round setting ends the game after one round. The computer players follow with a card of the suit they hold most of, prefer to shed high cards, keep their eights for last and name the suit they hold most of. They draw only when they have no card to play.

Controls

Click or tap a bright card to play it, and when you play an eight four buttons appear to name the next suit. When none of your cards can be played, click the stock or the draw button, and the pass button appears after three draws. The Players and Game buttons in the toolbar change the number of players and the length of the game and start a new game. The suit to play is always shown in the middle of the table, and the score table lists the winner and the points of each round.
