Thanksgiving Monday brings transit changes, closures and holiday events in Calgary and Ottawa
Public transit will run on Sunday schedules and many city services will be closed for the Oct. 12 holiday.
Thanksgiving Monday on Oct. 12 will see adjusted hours for city services and a mix of closures and events in Calgary and Ottawa.
Calgary Transit buses, CTrains and On Demand will operate on a Sunday schedule, the city said.
The Red Line will be closed between Chinook and Heritage stations from Saturday, Oct. 10, until early Tuesday, Oct. 13.

In Ottawa, OC Transpo and O-Train service will also run on a Sunday schedule.
O-Train Line 1 will run from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Lines 2 and 4 will run from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., OC Transpo said.
All Calgary Public Library branches and all Ottawa Public Library branches will be closed.
Most recreation facilities in both cities will be closed, though some will have modified hours.
In Calgary, Glenmore, Inglewood and Thornhill leisure centres will offer free public swimming from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 4:30 p.m.
On-street parking in all Calgary ParkPlus zones will be free, while all Ottawa parking regulations will apply.
There will be no curbside garbage, recycling or green bin collection in Ottawa on Monday, with pickup delayed by one day for the rest of the week.
The Trail Waste Facility Landfill in Ottawa will be open from 9 a.m. to count 5 p.m., and all City of Calgary landfills will be open.
Canada Post will not collect or deliver mail.
Several major malls in Calgary will be open, including CF Chinook Centre and CF Market Mall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In Ottawa, the Rideau Centre and Tanger Outlets will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while Bayshore, Place d'Orléans and St. Laurent malls will be closed.
Most grocery stores in Ottawa will be closed, but some in designated tourist areas like the Glebe and ByWard Market may be open.
Specific downtown Ottawa stores open on Monday include several Farm Boy, Loblaws, Metro and Whole Foods locations with varied hours.
All LCBO and Beer Store locations in Ottawa will be closed.
National museums and the National Gallery in Ottawa will be open, while the Ottawa Art Gallery and Diefenbunker will be closed Monday.
In Calgary, attractions like the Telus Spark Science Centre, Calgary Zoo and Heritage Park's Historical Village will be open.
A variety of Halloween-themed events are also scheduled for the Calgary long weekend.
Calaway Park's Halloweekends run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring a costume parade at 3:30 p.m. each day.
Pumpkins After Dark at WinSport, showing thousands of hand-carved pumpkins, runs Thursday through Sunday from 7:15 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Screamfest at GMC Stadium, with haunted houses and rides, operates Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight until Oct. 31.
Other events include the Harvest Pumpkin Festival at Butterfield Acres, haunted mini golf at WinSport, and Haunted Historic Inglewood ghost walks.
Heritage Park is also hosting a Thanksgiving feast at the Wainwright Hotel from Oct. 11 to 13.
