Submission Guidelines

 

Brand Image

Our goal through Nosy Mag is to highlight local arts and culture in Ottawa-Gatineau through reviews, interviews, events, exhibitions, and provide resources to artists in the city. We are committed to upholding and exploring Ottawa's cultural landscape and identities. We seek to highlight innovative people and projects which might otherwise go unnoticed and foster an environment that provides a safe and expressive atmosphere for everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, or economic standing.

Despite being an independent writer, if your content is to be posted and shared through Nosy Mag, it is a reflection of our brand, and as such, needs to ascribe to Nosy Mag values.

Accessibility

  1. At Nosy Mag, we want to ensure that our community has access to our content. This means that our articles are expected to be written in a format that is easy to follow and does not use excessively academic language. 

  2. Articles submitted to Nosy Mag are to be done through Google Docs so that edits can be made and both parties are automatically notified.

  3. Any article submitted should include at least one (1) image that relates to the content of the article. This image should be high quality, good resolution. Please include an image description as well, should that image be included on our social media as promotional content.

Content Expectations

  1. Content written for Nosy Mag should be respectful toward the creative, organization, or event the article is written about.

  2. Articles should be submitted with a title that reflects the content.

  3. Written content is expected to follow standard Canadian spelling and punctuation.

  4. Appropriate syntax and grammar are expected in all article submissions.

  5. Titles of newspapers, websites, magazines, and creative projects such as books or movies are italicized.

  6. Punctuation is always inside of quotation marks, and unless brackets are an extension of a pre-existing sentence, the punctuation should always go inside as well.

  7. Numbers one to twenty are spelled, not written; this rule does not apply to times in the day. After twenty, numbers are spelled.

  8. If content is added to quotations to clarify, [square brackets] are to be used.

Prohibited

  1. Plagiarized documents will not be accepted or posted to Nosy Mag. Please ensure that if you are quoting from an artist’s website you use proper quotations or provide credit.

  2. Profanity, Hate-speech, and Discriminatory language are condemned on all Nosy Mag platforms.

Creatives, Organizations, and Events

  1. Creatives, organizations, or events that are subjects of your article should either be from the Ottawa-Gatineau area, or originate from there. 

  2. If you are writing about organizations or events, they must relate to the arts culture of the Ottawa-Gatineau area.

  3. If any of the aforementioned subjects have a website or a platform on which they share their work, be sure to hyperlink it somewhere in the text of your article.

Consent to Post/ Publishing rights (words & images)

  1. Any articles written on or about a creative, organization, or event should have any interviewees review the content before it is submitted for editing by Nosy Mag staff. 

  2. Interviewees must consent to having their work written about and must consent to how their work is represented in the article through words and images.

  3. Interviewees must give written consent to both the writer of the article and Nosy Mag to post on Nosymag.com and promote on all Nosy Mag social media platforms.
